Joe and fellow outraged Sacramento residents hit the streets of South Natomas.. and get an earful

I had today off. I ended up working anyways. I headed over the freeway to South Natomas with three South Natomas residents, including District 1 city council hopeful John Dahilig. We spent a good three hours video-interviewing anyone who would talk to us, from the Natomas High area to the Bel Air Shopping Center, and everywhere in between… including the South Natomas Community Center, where efforts are well underway to build the $1,000,000+ play structure…

Is there a relationship between low income housing and crime in Natomas? Speak for yourself!

By Joe • Aug 2nd, 2008 | Bookmark and Share

low income natomasLow income housing in North Natomas is finally the talk of the town — at least for a few minutes. Guess it pays to be a squeaky wheel after all.

Mary Lynne Velinga (I got it!) recently wrote a superb article that explored this hot potato in the Bee. In it were some dubious “official” quotes, followed by some outrageous reader comments. More dubious quotes recently showed up on independent blogs long after the article was published. I’d like to make a…

Walking on sunshine with Sacramento District 1 Councilman Sunny Ray Treetheway & the Sandheads

By Joe • Aug 1st, 2008 | Bookmark and Share

ray trethewayTime to stop and smell the flowers with Sunshine Ray Tretheway and his staff! Here we have included a few of our favorite quotes from two Tretheway letters that appeared on the Natomas Buzz (http://www.natomasbuzz.com) web site recently.

The first set of bites are from Tretheway himself in response to a resident’s status update on the North Natomas Financial Plan, in which the resident pleads with community members to come to city council meetings to convince the regal council that North…

What is up with the rising truancy rate in Natomas? And when will Fargo and Tretheway act?

By Joe • Jul 20th, 2008 | Bookmark and Share

natomas unified school district truancyUpdated: Make sure you read the comments below as some interesting points have been made by readers. Also, it seems truancy rates can mean different things by region, but I think we can all agree what they mean in Natomas given the well documented crime issues and delinquency problems.

If you visit Mayor Heather Fargo’s circa 1995 City of Sacramento web site you will find a link titled “Community Issues.” When you click it, you will–not surprisingly–find ONE item in the…

Fore! Sacramento Mayor Fargo ducks for cover as more whiffs of impropriety stink up local headlines

By Joe • Jul 20th, 2008 | Bookmark and Share

sacramento utilities departmentWhen the election season kicked off, our regal Mayor Fargo proudly summed up her track record at city hall in famous-last-words style when she gushed: “You won’t find a whiff of impropriety.”

I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps Mayor Fargo was referring to her pre government career, because the one at scandal-plagued city hall smells anything but pleasant as the hands of federal agents peel the onion layers back on employees involved in fraudulent activity.

Today Mayor Fargo’s PR…

Embattled City of Sacramento suffers another black eye after feds bust underground theft ring

By Joe • Jul 17th, 2008 | Bookmark and Share

sacramento city hallFirst there was the $45,000 in suspect mayoral trips around the world. Then there was the $58 million dollar deficit expecting to mushroom to $200 million. Then the crushing right hook of $1.5 million in “lost” water meters. And now this.

Looks like St. Hope isn’t the only program the feds are investigating in Sacramento. Just as many residents were beginning to aim the accountability finger at Mayor Heather Fargo for her questionable leadership oversight in connection with $1.5 million in…

Official reply from KJ’s camp regarding missed North Natomas Alliance meeting

By Joe • Jul 14th, 2008 | Bookmark and Share

From KJ Campaign Manager, Steve Maviglio, via email reply to my inquiry into why KJ did not attend North Natomas Alliance meeting:

“The Natomas meeting was the fourth community meeting on Kevin’s calendar that night. He attended the meetings of the Capitol Area R Street Association and the Avondale/Glen Elder Neighborhood Association, and then the College Glenn Neighborhood Association. At the latter, the agenda was slow to move along, and Kevin
