Joe and fellow outraged Sacramento residents hit the streets of South Natomas.. and get an earful

I had today off. I ended up working anyways. I headed over the freeway to South Natomas with three South Natomas residents, including District 1 city council hopeful John Dahilig. We spent a good three hours video-interviewing anyone who would talk to us, from the Natomas High area to the Bel Air Shopping Center, and everywhere in between… including the South Natomas Community Center, where efforts are well underway to build the $1,000,000+ play structure…

Is there a relationship between low income housing and crime in Natomas? Speak for yourself!

By Joe • Aug 2nd, 2008 | Bookmark and Share

low income natomasLow income housing in North Natomas is finally the talk of the town — at least for a few minutes. Guess it pays to be a squeaky wheel after all.

Mary Lynne Velinga (I got it!) recently wrote a superb article that explored this hot potato in the Bee. In it were some dubious “official” quotes, followed by some outrageous reader comments. More dubious quotes recently showed up on independent blogs long after the article was published. I’d like to make a…

Walking on sunshine with Sacramento District 1 Councilman Sunny Ray Treetheway & the Sandheads

By Joe • Aug 1st, 2008 | Bookmark and Share

ray trethewayTime to stop and smell the flowers with Sunshine Ray Tretheway and his staff! Here we have included a few of our favorite quotes from two Tretheway letters that appeared on the Natomas Buzz (http://www.natomasbuzz.com) web site recently.

The first set of bites are from Tretheway himself in response to a resident’s status update on the North Natomas Financial Plan, in which the resident pleads with community members to come to city council meetings to convince the regal council that North…

When the bullet hits the bone: 2008 summer in Natomas turning out to be a bloody one

robbery natomas You scream, I scream, we ALL scream: “GUN!!!!”

Wonder if Fargo, Dickinson, and Marcos Breton’s super duper new anti-gang tax would have prevented any of these crimes?

I’m pretty sure all these new crimes reported by the PD all occurred in Natomas–or at least in that general vicinity. I have not included a slew of other crimes in Natomas like when the 20- something guy with the two year old toddler with him walked up and

A few virtual evenings with the brave men and women of the Sacramento Police Department - North Patrol

By Joe • Jul 21st, 2008 | Bookmark and Share

sacramento police department blotterThe following North Patrol calls were observed Saturday and Sunday night by a vigilant (bored? :) ) Joe Sacramento reader. Before I type another word, I have to say that while criminal activity can be heavy on the North Sacramento beat at times, I am extremely impressed by the work our police department is doing.

As you will see, police response times are

Despite police presence and arrests, even MORE armed robberies in Natomas this morning

By Joe • Jul 18th, 2008 | Bookmark and Share

natomas crimeUpdated Saturday, July 19. In what is perhaps the most violent summer in Natomas history, two MORE violent crimes have been reported by Natomas victims, both committed early yesterday morning. These were not gleaned from a police email, these were reported by the Sacramento Bee this evening (thank you Sacramento Bee).

For those counting, the newest two armed robberies in Natomas bring the count to three within the past 48 hours, four if you count the one on Norwood to be…

Should we feel SAFE? North Sac and Natomas armed robberies continue in earnest with two “long gun” attacks

By Joe • Jul 17th, 2008 | Bookmark and Share

crime in natomasRemember the Bee’s article in the days leading up to the primary mayoral election? “Crime fight: Who’s got it right, Johnson or Fargo?” Reporter Ryan Lillis started his Fargo-biased article off with “To hear Kevin Johnson tell it, Sacramento is a violent place.” He also quoted Fargo as saying “Citizens should feel safe..” (or some spin-doctored quasi double negative like “citizens should not feel unsafe..”)

How safe do us Natomasites feel right about now? Not very safe, Heather and Ryan. Two…
