Today’s “Upbeat Friday.” We call it that around our house. We have a rule that you can’t complain on Fridays. Well, there is one stipulation–you CAN complain about your back pain, but that’s it. Glad Upbeat Friday doesn’t apply to this blog. W00T!

Stuff in the news… Sacramento County is closing its one and only Boy’s Ranch. Shocker. How sad. Sac County just got a little more dangerous. Anyone under the delusion that the Boys Ranch is not worth the money is ignorant. Period. Sac County Stupidvisors should all be fired for closing this ranch. That would not be extreme. That would be justice.

First they ran up the worst budget deficit in history, now they are going to close all the badly needed social services to make up the difference? WOW. Good thing I don’t swear on this blog because I could fill it with expletives right now.

All you ignorant people out there clapping and hooting over the closure of the ranch (while you suck on a micro beer and jam a handful of Cheetos into your face) please stay off the message boards the next time a story comes up about a Sac County youth re-offender committing a violent act. Better pray you aren’t the one in their cross hairs. You have nothing of value to add to the conversation– save for an apology for your ignorance.

Stupidity.

But these maroons pale in comparison to the Stupidvisors of Sac County. How could we have such an ignorant group of Stupidvisors? How does that happen? These are the same buffoons that will one day lead our assembly don’t forget. Roger Dickinson is one such critter. Good thing a judge is BLOCKING the stupidvisors’ stupid decision to shut down “indignant” health care services. Thank God Loaves and Fishes is looking out for the “indignant.” Along with two homeless folks Loaves sued the County and fortunately a judge granted a restraining order to stop their stupidity. Too bad the same wasn’t done for the Boys Ranch.

Of course what gets me–as always–is the IGNORANCE people are displaying in the Bee’s comments. The old me would mistakenly called it “evil” or “anger” but in the end it’s just ignorance.. or arrogance… or “stupidity,” whatever you prefer. But it’s also ruthless in my opinion.

Spoiled Americans with their bottled water, Starbucks, Ulta, jet skis, boats, McMansions, RV’s, Harleys, monster trucks and big screens who routinely talk smack about the poor and call for an end to social services are a DISGRACE to humanity. Furthermore they are cowards. They talk a big game anonymously on message boards, but I bet dollars to sunflower seeds they wouldn’t get up in front of a group of homeless people and talk that sh$#. Spineless.

Then again, I’m not really MAD per se. This is just me making a point. I understand it really does come down to ignorance–which leads to the inability to EMPATHIZE. I find the arrogant/ignorant are typically people who have A) Never been poor; B) Never been to a third world country; C) Never been discriminated against; D) Suffer from a disease akin to “only child syndrome” which can be summed up as “entitlement complex.”

I know I know it’s a waste of my time. LET THE DEAD BURY THEIR DEAD, Mark. I know. Sigh. Feels good to blow off some steam though. Sue me.

On a brighter note, state of CA is dropping a few mil on an anti gang initiative. “$7.5 million for 16 new grants to steer at-risk youth away from gangs has been awarded in California, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger announced Wednesday at a press conference at Los Angeles Harbor College.” I know some people disagree, but I think this is a GOOD thing. I am all for proactive measures. My question is: how much is Sac Town getting and when? Has Mayor Johnson even said anything about this? Why isn’t he more involved with this sort of thing?

Speaking of the mayor, did you read about Gerald Walpin? He is appealing his firing (would rather they call it what it is: RETALIATION BY EMPLOYER). Hope he wins his appeal. I am so disappointed in Obama for firing him. That was wrong on every level. This is good old fashioned employer retaliation. Obama fired Walpin for dropping the hammer on his boy Johnson. Plain and simple. WEAK, Mr. President.

So what are you doing for the 4th? We are going to friends to BBQ. Nice and simple——-> as life should be.

God bless yall this three day weekend. Please be careful out there.. and pray for the “indignant”

“Yes we can”? Once again, I ask who the $#%@ is “WE” Mr. President? Strange, Obama said he was going to unite Americans, yet all he does is continue to divide them as this image shows.

Dems say they have enough votes to pass health care legislation. All polls show the vast majority of Americans are against this legislation, even though it’s safe to say most have no clue whatis actually in the bill, and how it will impact their lives. All people know is that the government shouldn’t be meddling in American commerce (unless for oversight). Most people with common sense know that—ah, except for the people elected to represent us in DC.

Miraculously, even as voters threaten to boot their representatives, delusional politicians like John Larson are saying things like “But it isn’t about how many members are going to lose their seat … It’s about this moment, it’s about the truth, it’s every reason why you were elected to come and serve in congress..”

Geez. How much more euphoric can one be than explicitly stating they are wrapped up in this very moment and not considering the future whatsoever? Wow. And to say this is the reason he was elected to congress? When the majority of his constituents are against what he is doing? Better check this man’s prescription dosage..

If you ask me these politicians have hijacked our government. They are NOT representing the people by passing this bill. In fact they are in opposition to the people. What Americans want is oversight, regulation, and accountability. We want controls in place that won’t allow hospitals to charge $26,000 for a three day stay and a few tests (which is what I was billed several months ago when I was hospitalized). We don’t want dental companies to charge us a $150 per month then still have the brass to also charge us a $50 co-pay when we go in for a check-up. We don’t want insurers to be able to turn us away or jack our rates up 500% because we had a back surgery seven years ago. We just want some accountability! Right?

Then again, would we even have a health care problem if everyone ate healthy and exercised daily? How much of this problem have we Americans brought on ourselves? Could the health care monster even have grown into its current king kong size had we only needed it to serve terminal disease, chickenpox, the elderly, broken bones, pediatrics, and nasty flu strains? Would we even be having this debate if half of us weren’t obese? Or smokers? Sugar fanatics? Couch potatoes? Stress cases? Addicts? Alcoholics? Is it possible that WE created the monster that now threatens the future of the country?

Hence, if it is in fact true that Americans are responsible for the nightmare we call “health care,” then aren’t the delusional politicians in DC (including Obama) nothing more than ENABLERS??? How is Obama’s reaction to the health care crisis any different than a parent who continues to allow a child to wear a t-shirt to school in the middle of the winter even after he has been diagnosed with pneumonia? I submit that Obama and all the politicians who are bent on passing health care are doing far more damage to citizens than good. And the astonishing thing is, they actually believe they are heroes.

That’s right, as banks are slashing our credit limits, raising interest rates, slapping unemployed folks with $40 late fees for being two days late on credit cards, charging outrageous interest rates, foreclosing on homes instead of lowering interest rates, and denying small business loans left and right, bank executives are surfing a tidal wave of bonuses to keep their caviar appetites at bay and their yachts in the water. Bank bonuses rose 17% to $25.6 BILLION dollars in 2009. On top of that, many of these bonuses were paid in deferred stock so it is likely the bonuses will be much higher and could even surpass the 25% mark! This after billions of dollars in bailout money to keep the incompetent fools in business.

I know it is complete buffoonery to believe everything a politician says. I know only an idiot would fall for a politician’s promises. But I gotta tell ya I was hoping for more from Obama. Maybe that was my problem this last election… I was HOPING too much.

These bank bonuses are outrageous. Despicable. Disgusting. With millions losing their jobs, 20% unemployment in some places, forclosures at an all time high and so forth and so on these mother#$@%@ are giving each other bonuses? ? I’m sorry but to me that should be considered Treasonous. Mutinous. A spit int he face of every laid off American worker and family booted out of their home because they couldn’t make the balloon payment!

I wonder how Obama is going to react to this. I wonder if he even knows the banks’ love affair with democrats is officially over with the Daily Beat reporting they have begun shifting all their money to Republicans again (2 to 1 in 2009, but now back to half to Republicans). What a bunch of greaseballs!

Obama needs to get real and stop blaming this increasingly scary economic situation on Bush. I think it’s time we all concede that while the Bush team stood by and did nothing while the banks relaxed their lending standards and lent money to every Tom, Dick, Jane, and Mary in America, the Obama team has done nothing to improve the situation, and given news of these banks bonuses this week, it appears they are only exacerbating the problem with their hands off policy towards the banks.

And get THIS from Newser today: ” Banks tightened credit last year at what the Wall Street Journal calls an “epic pace,” recording their biggest full-year decline in loans outstanding in 67 years. The figure comes from a new FDIC report that paints the picture of a banking industry that, apart from a few top-tier players, is in dire straights. The number of banks at risk of failing jumped to 702, a 16-year high.” !!

Yes we can ! Yes we can do WHAT?? What are we doing again? Someone refresh my memory.

Since a lot of liberal dems are playing politics and pulling a Roman Polanski over Harry Reid’s “negro dialect” comment (you know, having a big ol’ double standard), perhaps we should flesh out a working definition of “negro dialect” and see where that takes us..

Can we agree “negro dialect” is a euphemism for street talk? Ok, now that we have that out of the way, can we also agree Harry Reid was saying Obama is a good candidate for president because of his magic ability to toggle his street talk’ on and off?

If yes and yes, we can now agree it can be successfully argued Reid was indeed paying Obama a compliment. This is the place where most liberal democrats are signaling the bus driver to stop. Trouble is, this aint the end of the line. You see, in order to pay Obama this compliment, by default Reid degraded millions of African Americans. How? Because by saying Obama is a special candidate for his ability to toggle his street talk on and off, he is implying most African Americans would not be because they CAN’T. In other words Reid is implying most black people would not be good candidates for president since they only know one dialect… negro dialect. He’s saying they can’t switch gears. He’s saying they are uneducated. If you want to take it all the way to its potential end, he’s saying they are.. well .. uncivilized. And that is an offensive, inappropriate and yes AUDACIOUS sweeping generalization that should not be falling out of the mouth of the senate majority leader of the United States!

Now Obama’s blind supporters want everyone to move on. The president has forgiven Reid, they reason, so by golly that should be good enough for the rest of us. What arrogance. What nonsense. What ignorance. Again, Reid didn’t diss Obama, remember? It can be argued he actually paid him a compliment. Why the $#@% is he apologizing to Obama? He should be apologizing to the country for humiliating black folks and feeding stereotypes about white folks. I’ll move on when I feel like moving on, thank you very much.

I’m also not fond of the way Obama handled this. Where are his handlers? Haven’t they learned the president should be sequestered whenever there is a race related gaffe in the media? How many times are they going to let him put his foot in his mouth? It was bad enough to watch people throw shoes at Bush, but it’s even hardeer to watch Obama eat them. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t prefer it this way. I like Obama and I’d like him even more if he grew a pair. I would have preferred a more formal response like: “Yo Harry, don’t apologize to me son, you need to apologize to the country!”

But no. Obama has closed the books on this and he now expects everyone else to, and his troops are falling right in line like they always do. He’s even got Rev Al Sharpton on board (who miraculously hasn’t even so much as recommended sensitivity training for Reid!) Wow! Is Sharpton losing his edge, or is he in Obama’s pocket? You gotta give Obama credit though; if you can get Rev Al to turn state’s you got some serious game. Oops.. please forgive that splash of negro dialect.

So why is it that some people get the gravity of Reid’s comments and some don’t? I think there’s a simple answer: politics. Obama’s staunch supporters know that if Reid was expelled for his audacious skinhead comment it would undermine Obama’s presidency greatly AND sink democrats to the level of infamous supremacist dolts like Trent Lott and other hate mongers, thus erasing the progressive PC edge they have enjoyed in the great liberal media for for so long now. Without that edge, they are no better than their barking dawgs across the aisle.

So yes, this is ALL political, and people defending Reid are SELLOUTS for their partisan loyalty. Period, End of story. Whatever.

The Sacramento Bee ran a great multi part story on health care reform today with an equally great back story about a local Sacramento man who is fighting the system to get the cancer surgery he needs to live. As usual, the usual responders were out in force to either: 1) Blast the cancer victim for his own demise; 2) Blast conservatives for not supporting health care for reform; 3) Blast liberals for promoting health care reform. As the acrimonious “debate” (if you want to call it that) rages on, each new anecdote seems to engender a whole new wave of passion–my own included.

First, I am a born again health care reform proponent. To be sure, when I was under the spell of those fiscally conservative folks operating under the pretext of patriotism, I was all but certain the extension of health care benefits to all Americans would destroy my beloved country. But after being thoroughly educated by those on the other side of the argument, and after recently experiencing the health care conundrum first hand as an emergency room patient, and after recently attending a faith formation class where I learned I have a personal and moral obligation to promote and further “the common good,” I quickly switched teams.

Of course the most powerful catalyst for my conversion was my hospital stay. Even though we have insurance, the size of the bill we received was shocking. Had I been between jobs or something, or had my wife been incapacitated again with back spasms, we would not have been able to afford my hospital stay. In fact it would have wiped us out completely. That scared me straight, and forced me to accept the unacceptable chasm between the rich and the poor in this country, and the wanton disregard for the “common good” on the parts of those who are terrified of losing a single rung of material progress on the socio-economic ladder.

Expedient examples of the widening chasm: Jay Leno has a car collection so enormous he needs an airplane hangar to store the cars, yet millions of Americans can’t afford a cast for their kids’ broken arm. Tiger Woods is worth some billion dollars for hitting a ball with a stick, yet thousand of Americans will die this year because they are unable to afford treatment or prescriptions to keep them alive.

Sure, no one can be turned away from emergency room treatment, and that’s a GOOD thing, but why make any differentiation between an injury or condition that could take my life NOW, and one that could take it in, e.g. 3 months from now? If I’m dying, I’m dying, right?

What about THE COMMON GOOD, America? On the scale of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, how is health care (be it emergency room care or scheduled surgery) any different than, e.g., police protection….. or the right to a fair trial with a jury of one’s peers…. or the right to a fire truck when one’s house is on fire? It isn’t. The common good is the common good. It should not be time-bound, pre-conditional, or subject to any other fine print exceptions.

Health care is a BASIC NEED of a healthy society. Something MUST be done. If it stays like it is Jay, Tiger, and Oprah are the only people who will be able to afford it. And that just aint right, America.
