Kerridge divorces Sac Town
By M. Johnston • Feb 18th, 2010 |Ray Kerridge has finally been dislodged from the city administrative pipeline. No word on whether he self propelled or was plunged. Either way I think this is a good thing for Sacramento. I suggested he resign when the first massive budget shortfall was announced, followed by the news that Sacramento had become the second most [...]

By M. Johnston • Jan 12th, 2010 |Tonight there was a strong mayor forum hosted by the gay-lesbian “Stonewall Democratic Club.” They held a moderated debate at the Radisson Hotel to “hear the arguments both for and against” Kevin Johnson’s strong arm mayor initiative. Folks from SAG (Sacramentans for Accountable Government) were in attendance to argue for the initiative. Folks from SAVE [...]

By M. Johnston • Dec 30th, 2009 |Upon hearing iMayor Johnson’s new year’s resolution to “improve relations with the city council,” Armour Steel’s Steve Ayers (the guy who wrote the letter to the city decrying the tumultuous political environment at city hall), is quoted as saying, “[Johnson] needs to bend over backward and extend a hand to every council member. “ What [...]

By M. Johnston • Nov 3rd, 2009 |So I hear the panel commissioned to explore charter reform for the mayor’s seat has determined it’s a good idea to give the mayor a few more goats, but not the deed to the farm. That will apparently be the topic of a two hour agenda item in tonight’s session. Sounds reasonable to me.
After the [...]
I’m thankful for..
By M. Johnston • Aug 20th, 2009 |When I did the “I’m sick off..” post , I promised the “I’m thankful for..” post would follow. Here it is. Please feel free to join in. I’m thankful for..
1. God. Yep, I don’t know who or what I would be without Him. Luther Vandross, my favorite male vocalist, did a song called So Amazing [...]
Obama sets the conflict resolution bar high with “beer summit” , KJ should take heed
By M. Johnston • Jul 30th, 2009 |I was the first to condemn Obama’s remarks about the police acting “stupidly” in their arrest of his hot-headed Harvard Professor buddy. I thought his comments were totally unbecoming of the commander in chief, and counted myself amongst millions who asked him to apologize. Surprisingly, and much to his credit, he did even better: he [...]

By M. Johnston • Jul 24th, 2009 |The true color I’m referring to is not the one you might think. I’m not referring to him being black, I’m referring to him being GREEN, as in INEXPERIENCED.
I gotta say, I was –and continue to be– really disappointed in Obama for his comments about the actions of police officers who arrested his Harvard buddy. [...]
Walpin termination goes against everything Obama preached last fall
By M. Johnston • Jul 12th, 2009 |First, I’m not fan of grand-standing investigators, prosecutors, or other “authorities,” who use their positions of privilege to publicly humiliate the citizens or organizations they have been empowered to investigate. Second, I am not a conservative; in fact, I can’t even hold a conversation with the average conservative without a strong alcoholic beverage in my [...]

By M. Johnston • Apr 13th, 2009 |Happy Easter, friends. I hope you all had a nice weekend. Ours was wonderful. We attended Saturday Easter vigil at the Cathedral. The service was long and people were required to stand for long periods of time. At one point a man fainted. Fell backward like a tree and slammed his head onto the hardwood floor. A woman screamed. Then, BANG! He was down. The Sac Fire Dept arrived and took him away with them.

By M. Johnston • Feb 3rd, 2009 |Former-Sac-Bee-columnist-turned-gadfly-extraordinaire R.E. Graswich broke an interesting little story last night on KOVR13’s The Scoop. In the segment, Graswich exposed an internal mayoral “staff report” containing–what some might call–covert city charter amendment proposals. Not surprisingly, the proposals–if passed–would give the mayor more power over city council meetings and excuse him from being present under certain conditions.
