In Ricardo Montalban’s enchanting Fantasy Island voice: “Welcome to California, my friends. Land of the furloughed, home of the foodstamp. We might not be able to educate you, but we’ll be glad to have you standing in line at EDD with us. Shoulder to shoulder in brotherhood. Misery loves company. Welcome!” -Hey, at least Gonzalez [...]

By M. Johnston • Feb 17th, 2010 | Bookmark and Share

A few minutes before I read an ABC News  article on California is now officially the brokest damn state in the union, I was reading an article in the Bee stating how Sac State University president Gonzalez would be welcoming another thousand immigrants into U.S./California citizenship today. Good Lord.
Where are these people going to live? [...]

Banning divorce is not the answer to restoring the sanctity of marriage

By M. Johnston • Dec 2nd, 2009 | Bookmark and Share

The Bee posted an article today about a guy named John Marcotte who would like to see divorce BANNED in California. According to his web site, John (a “concerned Christian”) believes Prop 8  “didn’t go far enough to protect the future of marriage.” His solution?  Literally chain spouses together  for life with no possibility of [...]

Health care and the “common good”

By M. Johnston • Nov 29th, 2009 | Bookmark and Share

The Sacramento Bee ran a great multi part story on health care reform today with an equally great back story about a local Sacramento man who is fighting the system to get the cancer surgery he needs to live.  As usual, the usual responders were out in force to either: 1) Blast the cancer victim [...]

Thank you God, Family, Friends and President Lincoln

First and foremost I am thankful for my Creator,  the God of the universe from who all good things come. I don’t care how old the planet is; it’s amazing and I’m thankful for having had the chance to freely experience it as a conscious life form with the miraculous ability to discern its beauty [...]
