I have been saying for years the Sacramento Police Department should add an online scanner to its website so citizens can monitor their communications as they can in other major cities. I have also suggested the PD add a feature whereby citizens could receive alerts when/if felonious crimes are committed in their area (especially when perps are still on the loose). An amber alert system via the web if you will. While I await a response (it’s only been a year since I sent the idea off — along with the idea to have a Sac Kings-sponsored  gun amnesty day, which would even make more sense after the Gilbert Arenas incident), there are a few alternatives. My daughter found a police scanner app in the iStore. It allows you to monitor most law enforcement agencies including the Sacramento Police Department. She was even able to monitor a law enforcement agency in Haiti. Seems to work really well. You can check it out here: http://scanner911.appspot.com/.

  1. As I look back, I think the night I was listening to NYPD Police radio was the single event that convinced my wife that my new Droid was a total waste of money and attention span!
