Question of the week: “Why the %#$@ should I spend my time and resources searching for meaning in a mechanical world I have already declared has no meaning?” -A critic sarcastically assuming the paradigm of a scientist who has absolutely ruled out the existence of a higher power, but somehow still finds the search for life’s meaning a worthwhile investment of his time. And they say Christians are nutjobs.

I just read a book called “Genius of the Beast” by Howard Bloom and that sounds like a comment he might make. The thing is that he’s smart enough to know that science and religion are not incompatible. In fact, they are complementary. This plane is indeed mechanical if that is the only dimension we acknowledge. There is so much more depth than that. What proves that more than science?

Chani, I could not agree with you more. In fact the more I learn about science, the deeper my faith in God grows. Of course there is an intelligent designer. It’s so obvious. Our emotional fragility alone is enough to convince me–and that isn’t even the tip of the iceberg
