In a development that validates what us anti gang tax gadflies have been saying all along, the City of Sacramento has decided the Red Light Camera program (aka Say-queso-for-big brother-as-you-illegally-pass-through-a-photo-enforced-red-light), should remain in the hands of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department for another several years, and in Public Hearing Item #13 at tomorrow night’s city council meeting, they will make it official.
Reason? Simple: When the city of Sacramento was managing the ten-light program in city limits, a state audit revealed it was operating at a $50,000 per year LOSS.
Trust. Progress. Fargo. Not.
Since essentially surrendering management of the program to the more competent county, specifically the Sheriff’s Department, the program has become quite the success, evidently reducing the number of collisions by up to 30% or more at some intersections.
To paraphrase Michelle Obama, this is the first time in my life I am proud of my city. Ok not really, but I couldn’t resist.
Being one to never miss an opportunity to give kudos where they are due: I say kudos to Heather Fargo and the council gang for recognizing the ten stoplight program is just too darn complicated for the City Of Sacramento on Fargo’s watch–especially given the $58 million dollar deficit she and City Manager Ray Kerridge created, not to mention the fire department brown-outs, wholesale police force reductions, and STILL missing $1.5 MILLION in water meters (probably sold on the black market to some grifter in the bay area).
So maybe this is Fargo’s [distorted] idea of “PROGRESS”: Her ability to know when to fold ‘em, to tap out, and turn a loss into a profit by simply handing a failed program over to a more competent agency. This would be half admirable, if only it were true. Lest we forget, she did the exact OPPOSITE when Roger Dickinson’s doomed anti gang measure failed, and she recklessly slapped it onto the very next council agenda and offered to manage the multi million dollar program to boot.
I have said all along that the city of Sacramento can not be TRUSTED to manage a public safety program under Fargo’s leadership. If they can’t run a ten light public safety program, why in the world would we ever trust them to run a multi million dollar public safety program?
Trust Fargo? No way. Progress? Maybe for a few minutes tomorrow night in the council’s chambers.

Yep, more proof the city of Sac under Fargo is a joke.
I for one am glad those damn cameras often don’t work right…I have turned right at an intersection before coming to a complete stop on a red light (it was clear) and the camera flashed…damn I though that was going to cost me 75 bucks…but never got anything in the mail…..sweet
I hate those f’g things
