Joe Sac Exclusive: Memo from Chief Braziel to City Manager listing deep cuts to police department staff and services

By Joe • Sep 10th, 2008 | Bookmark and Share

sacramento police budget cutsAccording to Heather Fargo, her #1 priority has ALWAYS been public safety. That’s why she’s been green-lighting continued building in Natomas right up until the final minute of the December deadline (although KJ approves of the same, so they both seem to think tax revenue is more important than our safety), despite the incredibly severe and real danger of CATASTROPHIC flooding worse than Katrina. WORSE THAN KATRINA.

Yes, Fargo is big on safety. That’s why the police department is in the unenviable position of slashing it’s budget by 8% to help the Queen  of Green and Rainman Kerridge dig their way out of a $58 MILLION dollar deficit crater they dug the city into. And man the cuts are DEEP.

I’m not even going to state them here. I will leave it to you to READ this MEMO. Every voting Sacramentan should have to read this.

THIS is what happens when a city government is NOT focused on public safety. This is what happens when they are more focused on protecting TREES than PEOPLE.

Heather Fargo and Rainman Kerridge have FAILED US miserably.

Haven’t you had enough yet?

What are you CELEBRATING for? Why aren’t you protesting??

  1. Holy Witchita State!! That is freakin’ DEEP all right! Wow. Sacramento is about to get a whole lot more violent. This is scary stuff. So much for the falling crime rates.

  2. Horrendous. Criminal. Fargo and Kerridge should both be prosecuted for mismanaging our money, the resulting deficit, and the resulting cuts to public safety services. I’m disgusted.

  3. OK as usual I have a different take on this…and it’s just my opinion…I like to look at things a little differently…and I have found this has served me well in the past.

Where did you get this Joe? Was it sent to you? Honestly at first glance this looks like Braziel is trying to scare the public into more funding for his department. While we may or may not need more funding (I want to see more objective stats) This memo is clearly meant for public consumption to build a groundswell of support for the either increased funding or increased taxes (Gang Tax) I would bet that once this hits the papers and there will be screams from the public to do whatever it takes to protect us…even increased taxation… this is one of the oldest tricks in the book for Police Departments all over. If I were Mayor, I’d fire Brazeil for releasing this to the public for political reasons. I would bet that Kerridge didn’t release it, unless he is in on the scam.

  4. Sorry but I have to add this…

Don’t EVER believe anything that is told to you by politicians or appointed government staff.

They have one agenda and one agenda only…more cash in their pockets, for their unions and their retirement plans.

I follow their actions and voting habits, never their words.

Take Trethaway for example…he votes to support urban sprawl, yet he rides a bike to work and carry’s the personae of a sierra club hippie like a badge of honor to nuzzle up the the Democratic majority in his district. (We need to parse his entire voting record, for his next election)

Heather Fargo tells people she is anti-development…lol can you friggen believe that! but it works folks…her zombie like supporters will echo her statements all over town…Americans have lost the ability to critically think. the media has turned our brains to mush…

  5. Source of memo: confidential. HOWEVER, the Bee has now posted the memo also. Check right hand column in the article about it under the MULTIMEDIA tab.

I don’t believe there is a conspiracy here. There is a massive deficit. All depts were asked to cut their budgets by 8%. Braziel has now officially made the cuts.

That said, I would agree Braziel’s verbiage in the memo is intended to concern people. He (they) have all but spelled out: “You are now going to be a lot less safe than you were before these cuts.”

Where is the public outcry? Oh, we are in Sacto. Sacto residents don’t cry out unless something happens to them or a loved one, or the violence hits too close to home. I continue to be flabbergasted by the lack of outrage in this town over what is happening.

  6. I am armed and dangerous in my home. If the criminals come knocking, I am going to start blasting. It is every man for himself in this God forsaken confused city and we can no longer count on the city or the cops to provide basic public safety services. The dumb asses running this city spent all our money during the real estate boom like the money would never stop rolling in, and they didn’t bother to save a penny and prepare for the rainy days. Well now it’s raining. And the city of Sac is broke. Watch these dumb ass residents re-elect Fargo again.

  7. How incredibly pathetic. Then I saw good ol’ KJ’s comment that he thinks the cuts are “inexcusable” and that he would not have approved them. Well, first of all they’re not approved yet Einstein. Secondly, why doesn’t Mr Champion of Public Safety Johnson think continued building in Natomas all the way up until the DEADLINE is “inexcusable”? Joe are you seeing what I am seeing in Johnson? Did you read that comment you posted in “Word for Word?” Is he that dyslexic, or did you print a typo? “Certain things”?? Hello! “Certain things” are **people and property being placed directly in the path of danger!**

I am beginning to think we are screwed whether Johnson or Fargo are mayor. Johnson seems to do and say everything Obama does. What sets him apart? Where is his identity? What does he stand for? Does he even know?

    Frustrating!

  8. Ima mount a streetsweeper on my roof and just start blasting anything that drives by. Better safe than sorry. This place is going Mad Max!!

  9. FGC - Statistically speaking we are at least safer than Oakland, East Palo Alto and Richmond. lol

Lauren - Most likely you are correct, no matter who is Mayor we could be skeeerewed…But..I have seen a glimmer of hope in KJ, he is willing to buck the system and institute changes. He is tough on young thugs yet at the same time he try’s to give them education and opportunities. He is not perfect, and he yes he WILL be VERY pro development.

So where does that leave us…He is right now our only shot at any change. From what I have seen close up and personal from Heather Fargo it tells me she is rather incapacitated mentally by Multiple Sclerosis. She has very poor memory, and forgets her place while speaking. It is sad that anyone suffers from this disease that wastes away the brain, but the media and those around her are trying to cover up, or at least to not discuss this publicly, the extent of her illness and the effects on her mental capacity.

KJ is no shoe in for the job, no matter what you hear. KJ has split the Democrats in Sacramento, a dangerous thing, and he is fighting very powerful foes. He has the African American and the pro development and Greek vote. However he does not have a lock on: Midtown, East Sacramento, the gay vote, the majority of unions members, the liberal whites in Natomas, the downtown hipsters, the anti development folks, pro preservation votes, the socialists, the communists, the hippies and the rest of the folks (thousands of them) who are handed taxpayer money from Heather Fargo et al…KJ could very well lose this election if he is not careful for the next few weeks. I predict that this will be the biggest voter turn out in the history of Sacramento. And the Liberal Obama factor may in fact hurt KJ in the voting booth. The ultra liberal nut job Dems will be out in force, and I believe they will support Fargo.

Also I predict that if Fargo does win, (NEVER underestimate the power of the SEIU and the VERY pissed off Teachers Union) due to her progressive disease she would resign soon (after she gets her pet projects off the ground) and hand the reigns over to Vice Mayor Kevin McCarty. Anyone want to take this bet…???

  10. I agree KJ is a way better choice than Fargo.

But I also agree KJ is sending out some conflicting messages given his public safety mantra and his support for continued building in Natomas despite the fact that we are in very real danger of catastrophic flooding. It appears as though KJ figures if the Federal Government gave Sacramento another year to build, then it must be ok. But those of us who have followed it closely know the extended window of opportunity was not a blessing for more building, it was a GRACE PERIOD they conceded to.. reluctantly.. probably to get schizo Fargo off their backs..

Lest we forget, when the building moratorium came down, Fargo called it “dumb” and Kerridge said he was “totally outraged.” Fargo then completelky lost her mind and declared that she would count on Doris Matsui to help her get “an act of congress” to reverse the moratorium. But oops. Doris Matsui is a TRUE champion of public safety and when asked about her position, Fargo got this big slap in her face:

“Public safety is No. 1,” Matsui spokeswoman Lauren Smith said Tuesday. She said the congresswoman [Matsui] was “exploring avenues” that would allow critical projects, such as a planned North Natomas fire station, to proceed.

    Doh.

So KJ, it is ok to be cautious and stick to your public safety guns. It is ok you side with Matsui and not Fargo. I thought you were looking out for Natomas? We don’t even want more office space and warehouses here. We want family venues and a sense of normalcy instead of feeling like we live at the crossroads of LOW INCOME BOULEVARD and LIGHT INDUSTRIAL AVENUE.

  11. Also, I am told Fong is the one who wants to be mayor..? McCarty will neva eva eva eva EVA be the mayor of this city. I would spend my last dollar staging protests on every street corner if he even so much as gasped a puff of air about running. McCarty couldn’t be the mayor of whoville.

  12. Why couldn’t he be elected… he’s a liberal…he appeals to gays…he part of the Democratic Machine…I would put my money on him over Fong who only has the Asian thing going for him…which on second though may be the only thing you need going for you to be the next mayor…the Asians are coming up to bat right?

  13. They’re both poseurs. I wouldn’t trust either as far as I could throw them. I am shocked how LOW the bar is for elected official competence in Sacramento. We have a bunch of clowns in our city council. And I am not talking about them personally, as people, I am talking about them as elected public servants and their dismal performance that has led to a soon-to-be $200 MILLION dollar deficit. Why in the world would you want ANY of them to be mayor? The whole council has FAILED our city (ask the police and fire departments) and all of them should be removed for their public safety negligence. Where are the lawsuits? Where is the outrage? In the private sector they’d all be fired. Why do we tolerate such a low bar? Are people afraid of them?

  14. Joe..seriously its very simple. Every single one of them, with the exception of Robbie Waters, was put into office by the Democratic Machine…I know, I was apart of some of them getting into office..long ago before I woke up. I would not put Robbie Waters in with the rest of them…at times he is the only voice of reason..and guess what, he is a Republican…so maybe your going to be having a Grand Old Party at your house soon Joe?

  15. Joe, I would be careful not side always with the fire and police dept., they have powerful unions and their goals at times are not always to protect the public, it is about greed. There budgets need careful review for I am afraid much is wasted. Recently, the fire station on N. Market had a engine shut down due to the brown out, so the Capt. decided to take out a second truck because of a drill, leaving much of Natomas unprotected. The reason was the drill was planned before the the new brown out policies went into effect, there was poor communication and planning, probably more mismanagement happens than not. The doubling up of officers is a joke, the criminals will love it. I have heard Sac PD has high numbers of police Admin. staff compared to other depts, do you believe that?? This probably deserves national attention, a city council trying to annex more land, build more low income housing and large new housing tracts, but can’t safey protect its residents. Will KJ be more of the same, probably better than the two you’re discussing above.

  16. I hear ya Charlie. Not like any of them ever sided with ME.

Will KJ be more of the same? Doubtful. I think he’s far more in touch with the REAL problems facing the community than any of the current hamsters in city hall.

But KJ can’t do it alone. He will need allies in city hall. Right now the majority of them are connected to Fargo like babies to bottle nipples. It’s scary. There is no independent thought whatsoever in the council. They’re all Fargo shills for the most part. KJ will have to undo all of those ridiculous loyalties, which will be difficult because most of them share the same poltical consultant as Fargo, Richie “I Got Them at” Ross

But first KJ has to win the election.
