Things in the news I wish we didn’t have to hear about (Pat Wiggins wig out edition)

By Joe • Aug 12th, 2008 | Bookmark and Share

I spend a lot of time writing about stuff I care about. I thought I’d change it up and share a list of things and people in the news I wish I didn’t have to hear about..

The Corti Brothers move
I hope they put a Long’s Drugs in that lot–Natomas style, baby. Welcome to “NEW Sacramento” y’all!

Urban forests
People and public safety first, THEN trees!

Sac Tree Foundation
When are we going to see a Sac Teen Foundation, Ray?

Southern Californian commercial developer Joe Zeiden
With today’s city council approval to purchase $2.4 million worth of downtown properties, the City of Sacramento has now spent a total about $26 MILLION acquiring properties on Zeiden’s behalf, so he can turn K Street into retail row. This while the city is trying to wrestle multiple properties away from Moe Mohanna under eminent domain law. How many more Southern Californian businessmen are Fargo and the Council going to make filthy rich? I bet half of Santa Barbara’s wealth is comprised of Sacramento taxpayer dollars now. Way to go, Heather. Hey Kevin Johnson: I hope YOU don’t run a Southern Californian charity, too.

pat wiggins the anti christSenator Pat Wiggins (D) Santa Rosa.
In the middle of a senate hearing at the Capitol recently, this RUDE, closed-minded PUBLIC-SERVANT told an Oak Park reverend his views were “BULLSHIT,” as he delicately asked a committee on global warming emissions reduction to consider how new laws, fees, etc. impact those in poor communities.

A DEMOCRAT blasting a PASTOR representing Oak Park!? Whiskey Tango?

I am so sick and tired of politicians like Fargo, Wiggins, Tretheway, blah blah blah who think they can unilaterally run the government however they want, without any accountability, and without ever even considering the views, wants, and needs of citizens who don’t live in their green little hybrid worlds.

Has anyone stopped to look around and realize that half the ultra liberal Democrats in California are actually closet Republicans who don’t even know the fundamental difference between the two parties other than one is pro abortion and gay marriage, and the other one isn’t?

And is it just me or does our entire senate look like Heather Fargo? Is there a cult I don’t know about?

Here’s Pat Wiggins playing a true DEVIL’s advocate….

Pastor Roberts, we love you, man. Keep up the hard work on behalf of the community!

John Edwards infidelity

Cheating dude in denial? Wife who stands behind her man no matter what? Sounds like a perfectly normal political family to me! How is this news? Same soup warmed over.

Equestrian events at the Olympics
Really? Horses? What’s next? Tortoise races? Cock fights? Frog jumps? Bull fights? Monkeys playing video games?

The State Fair
We go every single year. And every single year it is exactly the same nasty onion ring globs and garlic fries. Same blistering Dante’s inferno weather. Same exhibits. Same games. Same rides. Ok my daughter is disappointed I added this one to the list. So I leave it here with the disclaimer stating: Yes, love, we will go again this year.

  1. Good point Joe, we all want downtown to look good, but Fargo and Co. have given away too many millions, what happened to private enterprise, I sure hope the economic gain will surpass the risks, can you imagine if there is some big depression and we absorb the losses. I guess when its tax payers money, the council is not too worried. The litigation problem with Mohanna reminds me of the Natomas Park Board, they have now been in a 5 year legal battle with Lennar over the club construction, and they are unable to settle and a trial date is set, why the f*** arn’t more residents questioning this process, and demanding some form of normal resolution, houndreds of thousands have already been spent, the legal war with STI, the cable co. finally ended, the costs exceeded the settlement, leading us to question who is in charge. The wasted resources, time, energy, money are profound, and the stupidity continues, use some of your talents uncovering our board, I am sure you will when our dues jump steeply soon.

  2. It’s funny you have mentioned the Natomas Park HOA. Every time I go in the clubhouse there are suits everywhere and hush hush meetings with lawyers and others. I too am SHOCKED by the amount of money they have spent. But then again Charlie, I am shocked by how little Natomas residents care about crime, too. There were 450 people at the school for the crime meeting…. from South Natomas, Del Paso Heights, West Natomas, Regency Park, Heritage Park, etc etc . If my crappy math will suffice, I’m thinking there were MAYBE 20 people there from Natomas Park. There should have been a line out the door to the basketball courts for that meeting. Every person in the Park I talk to even now has no clue there was even a meeting. They look at me and go, “Really? A Crime meeting?” I talked to a homeowner two days ago who swore up and down she didn’t know there was any kind of crime issue in North Natomas and was unaware of any low income housing. Ignorance is bliss!

  3. Assholes have spent half the budget deficit acquiring properties for Fargo’s little boutique pipe dream and have one of the lowest cop to resident ratios in the United States. What the hell is wrong with residents who think this is ok? The residents here scare me more than the politicians. The residents don’t gie a shit what they do with our money

  4. Big confession: I used to work for Pat Wiggins. This is by no means any way the dumbest thing she’s ever done. I had to drive to her apartment 2x a week to wake her up for work. Seriously. And I had to color code vote cards for her because she couldn’t remember what to vote for and against. She was elected because she was the only one on the ballot. Why Sonoma voters kept her is beyond me. I left politics officially because of her.

I personally know of at least 10 Natomas Park residents who were at the crime meeting. Joe you’re off base here- I think there were at least 30 there :-) Somehow people think in NP that Paladin has magical arms and can keep all the bad guys out.

  5. The Fair sucks.

  6. Joe - Your slip is showing. The Corti Bros building is on a corner in the same lot as a large, ugly strip mall, including a drug store (Rite Aid) and a SaveMart. Our faboo Long’s (oh, excuse me, CVS) is 4 blocks down, across the street from TJs. Lest you feel like Natomas is the only place with strip malls. ;-)

Speaking of Natomas, you might appreciate this sentiment: I was driving into your fair hood on El Camino with a friend the other day and mentioned the fire/homicide at Tamaron (sp?) ranch apts. He said, “Welcome to Natomas. Lock and load.”

  7. Sacto Blog - that is hilarious! Color coded cards? Good God. So Pastor Roberts should not feel bad.

Danny, oh come on. The Fair rocks!! Hey beats that carnival thing they erect over on Northgate every year.

6 Degrees, yeah ok just steal my thunder, fine. :P

Hey has anyone seen that movie Tropic Thunder yet? It looks hilarious! I love all three of those guys

  8. Yeah Joe, go easy on East Sacramento. They are a good bunch over there. They deserve a nice store like the rest of us, at least one! Can we get a Corti Bros or Trader Joes or Fresh Foods or anything in North Natomas? Please?

  9. The Rite Aid next to Corti’s used to be a Long’s. So that’s already been done. And Joe, if you feel like clogging your arteries, getting a sunburn, and getting an eyeful of bearded ladies, dog-faced boys, midgets and fatties (those are just the patrons), then the Fair is totally the place for you.

  10. Just keepin’ you on your toes, Joe. I like to think of it not so much as stealing your thunder, but basking in your reflected, uh, glory.

Seriously, though, E. Sac isn’t perfect, but I did choose to live here for a lot of good reasons. I’d still be in midtown if I could’ve afforded it, but I like this area. There’s certainly plenty of snobs and NIMBYs, and a fair share of crackpots here. Our property crime rates are among the highest in the region. ‘Course property crimes suck, but nothing like having a teenager stick a gun in your face (which does happen here, too, BTW). I don’t have kids, but I have heard the schools aren’t that great–which forces a lot of families to look to Natomas/Elk Grove/Roseville, etc. But one of the great things about E. Sac is the character–and businesses like Corti Bros are part of that (just like East Sac Hardware, Talini’s Nursery, and other old school places like those). When you hear East Sacto-ites bemoaning the loss of of places like Corti’s, it not just from some elitist sense of entitlement (in most cases), it’s a loss of part of the history of the hood.

  11. Don’t get too attached to your Long’s Drugs. They just go bought out today.

  12. Just keepin’ you on your toes, Joe. I like to think of it not so much as stealing your thunder, but basking in your reflected, uh, glory

    I know; I was just playin’ ;)

Seriously, though, E. Sac isn’t perfect….it’s a loss of part of the history of the hood.

    Two cheers for hood history.

  13. East Sac is the poor man’s Fab 40’s neighborhood. Get an income and come move to the Fab 40’s

  14. Last time I went the State Fair I was robbed. No thank you

  15. Sorry Jason when I read your post just now I laughed out loud… total reflex laugh… no offense.

Maybe pack a paintball gun like Dog the Bounty Hunter and crew do now this year?

  16. I want to move to somewhere like Miami . I was thinking going the Tony Montana career path. Sling some coke. You know move some rock. But not make the mistakes he did. I have a pretty good plan. I have been in Sac too effin long people.

  17. Hey Joe…I love you but..the Police Departments budget has gone up over 42% since FarGO took office…and last time I ran the stats for police ratio in Sac against the FBI’s index..we had more than most cities our size…but its been awhile and I don’t have those stats in front of me… I’ll get them tomorrow…I am a bit ambivalent about policing in general…I hate over zelous nazi cops f’n with me for no reason..yes it even happens to middle class white guys…we are becoming a bit of a police state, I’m still really pissed off over Waco and Ruby Ridge…kill the kids to save them…rat bastards…Yet on the other hand I want them to round up all these gang banger f’ers and put them in concentration camps. And yes I do want them profiled…if your a baggy pants gang banger looking scumbag I want you rousted and searched every time they see your gold teeth or MS13 tats.

    BTW what was your MOS?

  18. Check this out: http://www.sacbee.com/101/story/1063138.html

    31V

    Peace,

    Joe

  19. Thanks for the Link…But I usually don’t take statistics in news articles as gospel… if the article is correct…Sacramento has a police to population ratio of 5.6 per 1000 population is more than twice the national average for a city our size…generally, from my past research, Sacramento has alway staffed at a much higher rate than other cities our size. Yet they always scream for more staff and more funds, and they always get what they want.

According to the US Bureau of Justice Statistics:

“On average, local police departments employed about 2.1
full-time officers for every 1,000 residents. By population
category, this ratio ranged from 1.7 for departments serving
50,000 to 99,999 residents to 2.6 among departments serving a
population of 1 million or more”

The fact that police manpower is not being properly allocated is a different story altogether…from reading this story..once again we see that FarGO’s administration is screwing Natomas.

31V..nice…I need some comm hardware for Fort Natomas…I did 6 years as a 91B

  20. Allocation, exactly. Natomas screwed. No doubt. Although I can’t lie. I have seen a lot of cops in North Natomas in the past two months. I just hope it stays that way.

I was in Infantry Division (25th ID). Attached to M.I. and Special Forces. Lots of humping. Got the messed up back and ankles to prove it. :)

How are you involved in Fort Natomas?

  21. It’s the name of my bunker…locked and loaded
