Sacramento curfew and enforcement II: A nice big healthy serving of crow for Joe

eat crowLook! A nice big plate of DELICIOUS CROW! Mmmm mmm good.  Crunch crunch crunch. Ahhhhh. :\  Nothing like a plate of crow to knock you back down to earth.

Plonk. Good thing I am not getting paid for this. People would be demanding a refund. There is a curfew in the City of Sacramento. Apparently everyone in Sacramento knew that but me. Thank you NorCalGal for bringing this to my attention. For the record, I stand corrected and apologize for carrying on about this like a drunken fool. Oops. Makes ya wonder what else I have been wrong about. Scary thought.

Ok so we have a curfew. It is stated here: http://www.qcode.us/codes/sacramento/view.php?topic=9-9_40&showAll=1&frames=on.

Excellent. So now I know the next time I see juveniles milling around Natomas after 10pm (which is frequent in my case), I can call the police and report a curfew breaker.

I wish I would have known this a while ago.. although I wish I would have been a little bit taller, I wish I was a ball–aww never mind.

Serious though. I had no idea the police were picking up kids in Sac for breaking curfew did you? I am getting police call monitor lists a lot from Fernando, and I have not seen a single curfew call. But I hesitate to assert the police aren’t enforcing until I know for sure.

Does anyone know if the Sacramento PD is enforcing curfew?

  1. Have never heard of them enforcing it. It is my understanding they give a lot of warnings. Elk Grove doesn’t give warnings now, they are flat out citing kids now, and I hear the parents are getting fined too. I agree this is what needs to happen In Sac. Cops are just spread so thin I don’t know how they can do anything.

  2. Yeah right like the %$#%$@ cops are arresting kids for curfew in Sac! right! you were right the first time. They might have a curfew but they sure the hell don’t enforce it.

  3. Hey Joe - yes, there is a curfew and believe it or not, they do enforce it sometimes. At least they did two years ago when they brought our then 14 year old daughter home at midnight. She had snuck out of the house and had the unfortunate bad luck (for her) to have been walking near the park at the same time they were responding to reports of gunshots on another street. So yes, they do pick them up sometimes although based on the times I’ve reported juveniles in the park, it doesn’t seem to be happening much anymore.

  4. I agree with B. It’s not enforced.

  5. Perhaps in Natomas Park, Paladin should also be reminding kids of the curfew? They’re more likely to see curfew violations anyway.

On our street, there are always kids out past 10. I actually enjoy hearing them play basketball late at night in the summer. But there are about 15 of them, together at one house from the whole neighborhood and they’re supervised and safe… And not writing graffiti on the park structures.

  6. Joe, if you’re going to have to eat crow, it might as well taste good.

Here are a couple of recipes:

  7. LOL! Thanks, Mike, Thanks a LOT! ;)

  8. Becky, thank you. That is my impression, too. But I’m not trying to blame police for I know they are spread thin. The scanner call lists I am getting clearly indicate there is NO ONE sitting in donut shops on the job.

  9. Tracy, asking Paladin to remind kids of the curfew is a great idea (for NP anyway) and maybe one we can submit to the NP traffic and safety committee for discussion. I believe, however, if kids are in the parks that Paladin cannot enter because they’re armed. That is something Iearned when I attended my first Traffic & Safey committee meeting a week or so ago.

  10. Deb, as I have stated before, we need volunteer neighborhood watch folks. Kind of like the city guides downtown. Those guys help cops get people all the time. You can NOT leave a community like this unattended and expect the police or Paladin to secure it. Not going to happen. We are going to need volunteers. We are “ONLY” at 8% low income housing with another 7% to go. Imagine DOUBLE the at risk kids we have now. DOUBLE. It’s on the way. Time to start planning NOW

  11. Agree with Joe. How about sending some of those ‘city guides’ on the bikes up to Natomas to help out? Serve as some watchful eyes? Help police the curfew? Help with truancy? Isn’t Natomas part of Sacramento city? Last time I checked it was. Maybe you Natomas residents should tell Fargo you are sick of her making the distinction between downtown and the rest of the city. Downtown gets all the tlc and rehab while the rest of the city gets left out for dead. Something wrong with that.

Joe, about the crow. We forgive you. You could eat another flock of crows and no one would blink. You are the only I know of who has taken this much-needed zero tolerance stance towards crime and I thnk you for that
