Despite police presence and arrests, even MORE armed robberies in Natomas this morning

natomas crimeUpdated Saturday, July 19. In what is perhaps the most violent summer in Natomas history, two MORE violent crimes have been reported by Natomas victims, both committed early yesterday morning. These were not gleaned from a police email, these were reported by the Sacramento Bee this evening (thank you Sacramento Bee).

For those counting, the newest two armed robberies in Natomas bring the count to three within the past 48 hours, four if you count the one on Norwood to be the same general area. I am thinking I might start reporting crime in North Sacramento in general. Why stop at Natomas? Del Paso Hts is our neighbor.

Sacramento Bee is reporting TWO more robberies in the early morning hours of Friday, August 18. Apparently they missed the two shotgun robberies on July 16. That’s OK; Joe won’t let it slip. From the Sacramento Bee today (some text removed for brevity)

“Robbers attacked two South Natomas residents early Friday morning, but police say they are not certain if the incidents were connected to the previous rash of robberies in the area…..One resident was robbed shortly after midnight in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 3300 block of Smoketree Drive..Another was robbed about 2:15 a.m. in the common area of an apartment complex in the 2200 block of Northview Drive.” The two assailants in the first robbery had a gun. They were described as African-American men between 17 to 19 years old. They wore black clothing, police said.

Two African-American men attacked the victim in the second robbery, but no specific description of them was available, police said. Some personal items - jewelry, purses and wallets - were taken…”

Come celebrate Natomas with Sunshine Ray and Happy Heather. Food, fun, and festivities for the whole family! Come celebrate New Sacramento!

  1. Tell me this is a sick joke!??? Are you kidding me???????

Time to take action in typical Natomas style! Here is a list of things we could do next:

    1. Hold another meeting.
    2. Put a rush order in on the new police resource center.
    3. Start some more neighborhood watches.
    4. Start some new alliances.
    5. Have a bake sale.
    6. Build some more emergency shelters and low income housing to create a surplus which would hopefully decrease the demand.
    7. Turn the 36 arce parcel of weeds that was supposed to be a park into a penitentiary. This would ensure much needed tax dollars and cut down on fuel costs since criminals could literally be walked to jail after they are arrested.
    8. Build a mini golf and water park in the massive chain-linked lot abandoned by Pardee Homes in the middle of town.
    9. Repurpose the eight abandoned homes Pardee built to house a few National Guard units.
    10. Keep reading Joe Sacramento and praying we are not the next victim.

  2. HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAH. Ok that was freakin funny. Nice list Jay. My favorite is #7. I’m all for putting a prison right there, but I would also ask that Fargo and Tretheway’s homes were relocated there and placed in the “yard” with no door locks. That would allow them to really get to know all the good folks they brought to the community up and close.

  3. Who are the little twits doing all these crimes? Did they all band together and plan this? It just won’t let up. I hope it doesn’t keep getting worse. I am gathering my kids and moving ou of here. This is ridiculous. Where are we? In the Pocket area? I don’t get it.

  4. Surprise surprise Joey. This is what happens when you build houses on farm land and fill them with low life. Don’t act surprised, like you somehow got tricked. Natomasites (to me it sounds closer to parasites) knew what they were buying out there. I am so sick and tired of all the buyers’ remorse. Move if you don’t like it people. And remember, “if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it’s probably a duck in a rice paddy.”

  5. Ok, I get it. A lot of people don’t have compassion for us “Natomasites” and our crime issues and flooding threat. But you guys sure seem to love our tax dollars, don’t you?

  6. I have lived in Natomas for about 3 months. I work in West Sac. I will be moving to West Sac when my lease is up. Natomas is the “hood” whether you like it or not

  7. N. Natomas was built as a place to be nearby downtown, provide a livable/walkable neighborhood setting to capture the feel of real neighborhood. I don’t think I blame the people who bought here. I don’t blame police. I don’t blame the builders for doing what they needed to do to make money. This is not an episode of Father Knows Best - this is a large city, with large city problems and we have politicians who continue to operate provincially. Our state has laid out rules to provide low income housing in newly built areas. With it comes those individuals’ poverty - some of those people know nothing else, some are hard working and need the solution to get on their feet/provide a roof for their families. The unfortunate part is we can’t undo the parenting a lot of those people have received where the message is sent that it is okay to not do well in school, not get a job, to do drugs (not exclusive to the poor, for sure), and to commit crimes. Perhaps if we had the facility to provide job training, recreation, vocational programs in schools instead of insisting everyone prepare for college, and enough volunteers to provide outlets for that negative energy, things would be better, but it’ll probably just end up an endless cycle without addressing the core problem. Those problems are much bigger than having low income housing in Natomas and I don’t think anyone has an effective solution.

  8. Lori, I agree with you on all points, but one: I DO think there is a solution. In fact you nailed it in your comment here. The solution is to build a community center with all of the things you mentioned, plus an olympic sized pool, basketball gym, and everything else these kids need to get their fun on. You can NOT build this much low income housing and then not provide any services. It is scandalous and wrong on every count.

The rec center needs to be built and staffed, and it needs to be a something the entire region can be proud of. Natomas IS the future of Sacramento and leaders need to start acting like it and residents need to DEMAND change

Hope you are enjoying your weekend.

  9. I agree with Lori and Joe… The city extended the deadline for folks to volunteer for the North Natomas community center design group! http://www.natomasbuzz.com/2008/06/volunteers-wanted.html

  10. I agree Joe, quite a lot of Natomas bashing lately, can’t quite figure it out, other cities are not perfect, I would like to hear why those area’s are utopia? And for all the people bitching here, why don’t you get off you’re ass and make our community better, volunteer, help the schools, help a kid learn math, pick a weed in a park, learn how to do community service, anything but whining. All great communities are made by the intellect and courage of its residents, not the mere pointing out of problems and claiming to be victim. I am not sure if we can do it, most want to be victim, and not rise to the occassion and make great things happen.

  11. You think it’s bad here, check out the Bee articles whenever there is a Natomas article. Relentless. But like I said, they love our tax dollars. It’s such a double standard.

But it’s not the haters fault. It’s a PR problem. The City of Sacramento has done an absolutely HORRID job marketing Natomas to the rest of the region. You have seen my quotes from Fargo here right? “If we can’t put it on a magazine cover, why would we want to do more?” (nixing an idea to annex more land north of Regency Park on the grounds that North Natomas is already ugly enough).

Natomas is the city’s stepchild. They haven’t taken pride and OWNED what they billed as “New Sacramento,” so everyone treats it just like they do: a necessary evil to generate revenue.

  12. On the rec center volunteer thing: why does everything have to be a resident committee? Are these politicians that out of touch with the demographic and the area flavor that they need residents to design it for them? How about: Do your job! Post some options to that weird techy thing called the internet, let residents provide feedback, go back and implement changes based on the feedback, and let residents vote on final options. How hard is that to do? Leverage technology for a change! And do your job for a change Tretheway!
