Should we feel SAFE? North Sac and Natomas armed robberies continue in earnest with two “long gun” attacks

By Joe • Jul 17th, 2008 | Bookmark and Share

crime in natomasRemember the Bee’s article in the days leading up to the primary mayoral election? “Crime fight: Who’s got it right, Johnson or Fargo?” Reporter Ryan Lillis started his Fargo-biased article off with “To hear Kevin Johnson tell it, Sacramento is a violent place.” He also quoted Fargo as saying “Citizens should feel safe..” (or some spin-doctored quasi double negative like “citizens should not feel unsafe..”)

How safe do us Natomasites feel right about now? Not very safe, Heather and Ryan. Two more armed robberies (one an attempt, one a ’successful’ hit

crime in natomas(230220) 7/16/08 @ 9:38 pm, Armed Robbery Attempt, 4251 Truxel (Golden Dragon), N. Natomas
3 Suspects (male black 18-20, black clothing) attempted to rob victim in parking lot of her cell phone and money. Victim fled from suspects before they could get anything. They were armed with a long gun (possible a shotgun or rifle). They fled the area once the victim ran away.

crime in natomas(230296) 7/16/08 @ 10:42 pm (one hour later), Armed Robbery, 4200 Block of Norwood Ave (Robla). This took place about an hour later, just down Del Paso Rd a few miles. There were apparently same number of male black suspects, also brandishing a “long gun.” The victim was robbed of her purse . The police suspect this robbery was committed by the same suspects.

I would gladly concede that that Natomas is a safe place where I could feel safe at night with my family, but the truth is, it isn’t, and I don’t. Fargo is wrong. Plain and simple. The Bee? Wrong. Natomas is not “safe” compared to a lot of other areas. Don’t believe me. Believe the stats.

I should just move right, Bbbmer? Trouble is, I love Natomas. I love some of the people here, too. Been here since 2001. I want the area to be an area all can be proud of (even non “Natomasites” as Six Degrees calls us—eerily too similar to “Sodomites” I must confess). But that is not going to happen as long as we have residents buying the BS excuses about how hard it is to get the needed services here quickly. Fargo says Natomas residents are “unrealistic” in their expectations. Wah. She condensed a 20 year plan ionto 6 years. THAT was UNREALISTIC.

When are we going to talk about that curfew? It’s small, but it beats nothing. Who else is sick of being terrorized?

Sacramento Police thank you for your service to the community. I would NOT want your job.

  1. Thank you Joe Sacramento!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let them hate you. We love you. Thank you for caring about our community with the tough love it demands. You rock!

  2. Dang Natomas looking like DPH

  3. Natomas aint $#%@. Go move to Stockton if you want to see real crime. So what if you have had 15 home invasions and robberies or whatever. That aint $#@% compared to other hoods. You $#%@%# are lucky that’s all you got over there. Go move to Granite Bay if you don’t like the hood!

  4. The bad news: Your homeboy KJ is not going to get elected after the feds get through with St Hope

The consolation news: One of the levees will likely break before the evildoers take over Natomas for good, so the crime problem will self correct before Fargo has to get off an airplane and do something.

You guys get everything you deserve in Natomas. You bought homes on farmland and moved in next to section 8 apartments. What did you expect? Disneyland?

Do yourself and favor and blog about something else. You’re wasting great talent on news no one cares aboutr

  5. For shotgun toting youth you will need shotgun toting police. This a very serious matter and should not be downplayed or discounted. Any time you have rifles being used to hold people up at public places drastic measures must be taken for drastic times.

For those who think this is just a “rash” or “spree” I disagree. I have relatives in Natomas and I see the kids there with nothing to do but look for trouble. Most of them are young. The worst may be yet to come.

  6. Thanks Jen’s mom. Not trying to be a hero though, just trying to call more intense attention on this growing problem that city officials are in denial about.

    FGC: on some days

Jason: I don’t consider Natomas the “hood”

Panic: You make a point. Maybe I am the one who blew it by moving here. I never claimed to be the top of the IQ heap

  7. natomas is a jungle of crime surrounded by levees that are about to give way- get the hell out while you still can-seriously.

  8. We may leave the area. The wife says we should. I’m sure that would tickle every govt official downtown (judging from my stat reports on originating IPs), but the fat lady has not sung yet, and we are not quite ready to concede defeat.. yet

  9. Oh come on Joe! Don’t give up so easy! Just buy a shotgun and take it with you when you go out in Natomas. Nothing like the spray of good old fashioned buck shot on a nice warm summer night. That’ll get your point across

  10. Jason,
How did someone of your IQ end up here, we were never to be compared with Stockton, we don’t want to move to GB, tell all of your ghetto punk friends to just leave our families alone, try working for a living. Learn to spell too.

  11. I’d live in crime ridden Natomas over racist-graffiti’d Granite Bay any day

  12. Too bad the housing market is in the shitter or I’d already be gone.

  13. We have owned a home in natomas for 5 years. We are completely upside down on the house, surrounded by crime and weak levees, and living among people who actually sympathize with arguably the most incompetent elected official who ever held office in Sacramento county. We are seriously considering just walking away from our house. Who gives a sh– about credit scores when your community is saturated with low lifes who don’t value human life and property?

  14. I understand the sentiments here. Normally I would urge people to follow the chain of command and take up grievances with the city council per protocol but I think people in Natomas have a right to be fuming angry at our local government. I really do. Joe is right the master plan was supposed to be unfolded over a period of 20 years. The city council did that in 6 years instead. The mayor has even stated how fast the plans were coming in and how she couldn’t keep up. Go figure.

In hindsight someone should have demanded the city slow down and take time to execute the plan slowly to ensure services were keeping up with development. No one did that. All these Natomas residents running these groups and alliances and whatever else allowed the city to execute the plan any way it saw fit, with no protest or concern whatsoever.

So yes Joe is right and Joe speaks the tough talk that needs to be spoken. I just wish Joe and myself and many others with less tolerance for crime and understanding of relationship between poverty and crime would have spoken up a long time ago. We totally blew it by trusting the city government was being mindful of public safety and whole bunch of other stuff.

But even though we waited too long and got duped by the government that does not excuse them for their incompetence. No way no how. In the end, this is not the residents’ fault. This is the fault of the City of Sacramento.

  15. City does not care about Natomas. Natomas is only a means to an end.

Means = Natomas big box store cash cow for City of Sac where workers with no skills can get jobs and residents can get dirt low prices on products built in China

End = Fargo’s well-documented “Downtown urban lifestyle” fantasy

As long as Fargo is mayor, Natomas will be seen as nothing but a piggy bank for the city. And don’t blame it on Tretheway because he is just a puppet and does whatever his boss tells him to do.

  16. Hey panic,

So I went to a KJ meeting yestersday, just to find out what he said. I was an undecided, before KJ never showed up at the Natomas meeting, and while the Campaign Manager said, someone was there to represent him. Thats BS! I was there the whole time and nobody stood up and said s@#%!
So at this meeting, he was there. He walks in like he was still a celebrity, with his manager, and made the meeting look like it was a brain storming meeting or like I was an a training or an orientation for a new job!
    It was pathetic.

He asked the audience for questions at the end and everybody looked around at each other and asked him, so what exactly are you going to do? His response, What do you want?
WOW!!!! thats JOE’s Hero for you. I mean you should know. Right JOE? You work for him. Do you get on your knees when you speak to him too???

I agree, change the subject about Natomas dog. I just moved here from LA. Try living there. Or whats next, NATOMAS is the next LOS ANGELES??? and if you write that, I require 50% of your profit.

  17. I agree with you David and Panic. Joe’s whining about Natomas is lame, folks. He bought a home in a flood plain crammed between Del Paso Heights and South Natomas and pisses and moans like it’s supposed to be a respectable part of the valley like Folsom, Roseville, Granite Bay, Rocklin, etc etc etc etc etc. Whats even more of a joke is that it seems like only a few people in natomas back him up which speaks to how stupid all of them are out there. I say let it flood. Get rid of it and turn it back into farm land. We need the produce!!!!!

  18. Welcome to Sacramento. We need all the LA defectors we can get, DAVID.

    Peace, dog

    JOE

  19. David, don’t you have a Fargo staff meeting to be at? In Australia or China?

  20. I know who Joe Sac is. He doesn’t work for Kevin Johnson. He’s never even talked to him. That is a beaten horse only idiots are still beating. You obviously have only been a selective reader if you think Joe worls for Kevin.

  21. “David”

Are you sure you were at the same meeting as Kevin Johnson last night? The one where he got a standing ovation? Where we ran out of lawn signs? Where we signed up 16 new volunteers for the campaign? You should have taken the one Fargo lawn sign you brought with you when you left since it was still there when everyone left the building.

Also, we did send a representative to the Natomas meeting. You can ask the convenor of the meeting, who spoke with her that night. I’d be glad to provide Joe Sacramento with that information.

  22. Here’s to horseshoes and hand grenades. Fargo came close with Natomas, but no cigar.

  23. And for the last time: I DO NOT WORK FOR KJ OR HIS CAMPAIGN.

If you don’t believe me, call Steve Maviglio or KJ themselves and ask them. I am sure both will go on record without hesitation and state there is no connection, and never has been, express or implied.

  24. Thanks for the comments from the outsiders, some are pretty stupid like saying Folsom, and Rocklin or Roseville are more respectable, I would venture to say those communities have significant crime issues too, maybe different ones, more white collar crime, led by a corrupt Congressman for decades, high DUI’s, kids sniffing computer cleaner and trying to screw chicks using date rape drugs, and other major drug problems, major traffic and pollution problems. Natomas has issues, but does not need some snob from GB or Roseville telling us their community is somehow better, what a joke. Joe just wants to make his community better, like most of us do. Natomas grew faster than expected, we’re new and time is needed to improve the quality of life. Further, many moved here not knowing the city would change zoning laws and permit more section 8 housing, we have it and need to deal with it, unlike Roseville who just sends the Greyhound bus to Sacramento filled with people they don’t want. Your community has many fine things, but I would take it here anyday over the bible thumping, racial intolerant, snob ridden wealth of Placer Co.

  25. ” Joe just wants to make his community better, like most of us do” Many thanks for saying this. I’m glad that somehow still comes through :) Have a SAFE weekend.
