Updated” July 4, 2008, 3:13pm. In this space I earlier reported there had been two more armed robberies in the past two days per the Sacramento Police. I received an email from the police today saying they had made a mistake and reported two robberies when there had only been one…

Two male black juveniles (both w/ black hoodies and 1 with gold teeth) approached the male and female victims. They both had guns and they took the victims wallet and cell phone.

Hey Joe. Look at the details of these two robberies. Other than the gold teeth, do the robberies look familiar? Since they happened 8 minutes apart and took cell phones (?!) I get the impression these were the same guys.
I have just learned of your site, thanks for the news and opinions you provide, I hope enough of us in N. Natomas can speak up and keep our community thriving,(the last 2 years have seen a change), the recent crimes have been disturbing, and more low income housing is comming soon, the Blackrock section 8 housing is certain to be a problem. You need to let your readers know of the North Natomas Finance Plan, it is in draft form, interested people should read it and learn what Tretheway and the developers are doing to provide the proper infrastructure to sustain a viable community. It is a complex plan that needs to communicated properly by the city, of which has not been really done. Can you explain more about how the police substation is to help us. I have thought that beefing up patrols is best, there is a police station on Raley and Richards, why not spend limited money on cops picking up the our new gang bangers at the apartments. For years, we have literally had one cop patrol the north area, now that we are becoming a South Sac like community that may change.
Happy 4th, Pastor Mike. Yes, I was thinking the same.. but is it possible only 7 min elapsed between robberies if same guys? If so, wow, they are quick.
Charlie welcome. I believe we need strong, loud, consistent, sharply worded, articulate criticism of our local government. Sweet talking them will not get it done. History supports that assertion repeatedly. We all need to stand up and say we’re not going to take it anymore. New section 8 near Blackrock.. yes… major problems on the way. RIGHT in our backyard (we are 1/2 block from Blackrock/Del Paso Rd and our kids go to Charter on Blackrock).. also will have battered womens’ emergency housing (which is good for outreach, but not for public safety and property values given proximity to homes. Sub station.. crime deterrent AND most importantly 100% improved response times.. BUT… I agree we FIRST need more cops. No doubt about it. And I tired of govt and police saying more police won’t make a diff. PLease! Thanks to all for your support. United we can make a huge difference.
Also… one more thing… North Natomas Finance Plan… I have blogged about it.. check archives. Also see natomasbuzz.com. It has by and large been shelved from what I hear. Do you hear different? Tretheway.. I am not a fan. We need someone who is in touch with our community diversity. I can’t fathom 2 or 3 more years of this guy.
Joe, street crime often happens in that way. Quick hits then out of there. If they wait too long it gives the police too much time to get there. Moral of this story…don’t be walking home alone from anywhere at 1:45 in the morning!
The finance plan is very active, it needs to be approved every two years, there is an active group of Natomas residents working with the city to finalize the details, Brandy of the Buzz knows a lot. The difficultly with the plan is it is dependent on development fees to fund it, we are now in a down turn, it is a 30 year plan, and 70% of Natomas is built. The struggles are about what percentage developers pay to build. They want to contribute less to fund fire, police, parks and community center, transportation, which is a surprise, you can probably sell more homes, and attract more business if the community is more viable and safe. Call “Smiling Ray’s” office for details.
Good job on getting your kids into Charter, I hear from other parents it’s hard, why do district employees get in before residents do, that bothers a lot of us. We will need to keep an eye on the Blackrock apt, I have talked to the managers, they will need to maintain the property well.
Charlie, last I read about NNFP was on natomasbuzz.com in May, I have seen no follow up since then. http://www.natomasbuzz.com/2008/05/ever-wonder-where-money-goes.html. Thoughts? Also, I get nervous about the Natomas residents who are working with government on anything, to be honest. In fact, I continue to be amazed at the lack of family-oriented projects in this area. No bowling alley? No rec center? Community pool n the other side of 80? No Sun Splash? No Chucky Cheese? No mini golf? No roller rinks? Churches relegated to gyms, light industrial centers, and movie theaters? All many of us see out here are office buildings and warehouses, and the city won’t even zone any of the warehouses for recreational facilities (I know this firsthand). I’m sure this won’t be popular, but if the historical record of development choices is any indicator of what is to come, my expectations remain very low.
The Bee has an editorial worth reading today, there is an active planning and crime leadership group of residents, and their work is paying off with media coverage. The more people get involved the better our community will be.
I heard there is a sex offender living on Harwood in Natomas Park, near the Charter school, residents living nearby should know of this.
Ty. Re sex offender… yep,, right in our neighborhood a few streets away.. we already contacted PD about him and said we thought by LAW he could not live that close to school . PD said in his case he can live near school because evidently “he has nowhere else to go” and is forced to live with relatives there. Lucky us.
Re the Bee’s editorial about Natomas and residents renting out commercial space for a service center… I think it’s pathetic residents are having to do Smiling Ray’s job for him. It’s even more pathetic the Bee won’t acknowledge my site’s existence other than to criticize it for being anti Fargo. Oh well, just strengthens my resolve.
Have you seen the big black car with tinted windows in the back parked in the driveway at this offender’s house, that is creepy, hope you guys over there have a good neighborhood watch. I agree it is apalling that the resident’s are pushing the police center, Ray is a good person, it’s just now apparent he is unable to lead and manage district 1. I think the town hall meeting at the Club last year scared him, many jumped all over him over lack of police services. He used to come to N Natomas to meet with us, his new chief of staff doesn’t let him out much, hopefully a new candidate can come along and challenge him.
Charlie, thanks. Yes I have seen the car and the house and the dude. Hey at least we know he’s there; before Megan’s law we wouldn’t have even known. Now THAT was a scary time. I also think Ray is a nice person and have acknowledged him as such. I also agree wholeheartedly he is the wrong guy for this district.
