Look out: Criminals are getting bolder and colder

suspected Indiana baby killer apprehendedHow cold? Cold enough to burst into an Indiana bank in broad daylight, jump over the counter and shoot a five month pregnant bank teller in the stomach before she could even acknowledge his selfish demands. Both of her five month old fetal twins died the day after the shooting.

The ONLY good news to come out of this horrific story is that one Brian Kendrick and his accomplice, Aaron Stewart, were apprehended by police due to a tip provided by a witness who phoned Marion County Indiana Sheriff, Frank Anderson, at his home with information that led detectives to the perpetrators.

Give that informant a huge reward and spread the word. [Side note for future discussion: how about setting aside a percentage of CA lottery intake for a SNITCH REWARD FUND? We can name the program GET RICH SNITCHING. THAT will get kids talking to the police].

Tragically, violent crime is now commonplace in most parts of our country. Sacramento is no different (although stats show Sacramento’s violent crime rate is alarmingly higher than most other parts of the golden state). And just as in Indiana, where the aforementioned heinous crime took place, Sacramento’s criminals are also getting bolder and increasingly more apathetic about the impact of their narccisist crimes on their victims. Recall the recent Elk Grove baby shooting.

I am a rabid proponent of law enforcement (as if you didn’t know by now). Today I had a productive phone conversation with Captain Daniel Hahn at the Sacramento Police Department. I told him I was startled by the brazenness of criminals lately, and noted the recent rash of armed robberies and home invasions that have happened in broad daylight around Sacramento, especially in the Natomas area.

Captain Hahn agreed criminals are getting increasingly bolder, and added that there were two more HOME INVASION robberies in my Natomas neighborhood in the past 24 hours (see below). He also added the police MUST have the public’s help to solve property crimes (not to mention the more severe ones), and one of the ways we can help is by writing down the license plate of ANY suspicious vehicle in our neighborhood—that way in the event a crime occurs, police have leads at their disposal.

How much worse can it get? I worry it can get a lot worse, and with the ridiculous inflation we are seeing there is not telling what lies ahead. One thing’s for sure, when you go out in public, even in your own driveway, you could become the next statistic in the FBI’s crime database. Thinking that crime only happens to other people is a fantasy, and such thinking is very, very dangerous and irresponsible in this day and age of heartless maniacs taking control of our cities.

This is a time to be vigilant and observant—and walk tall with a big stick.
