When public figures find themselves in the eye of a high pressure storm, they seem to do one of two things: Crack and resort to desperate measures to stay afloat, or remain poised and establish themselves as reliable leaders people can depend on no matter how nasty the storm gets. In this observer’s opinion, we are witnessing the effects of pressure on both candidates, and it’s not looking good for Fargo and her pursuit of another four year vacation at city hall.
Not surprisingly, today Sacramento City Councilman Robbie Waters announced he will no longer be sailing with Heather Fargo, and instead has joined the increasing number of brow beaten citizens aboard the USS Kevin Johnson (damn, when Fargo said she was a “consensus-builder” ” she wasn’t kidding!) Waters (no relation to those surrounding Natomas), is obviously wise to the adage: There are no dry state rooms on a sinking ship.
Not surprisingly, Waters cites Fargo’s shameless abuse of her position to win the election as the reason for his jump (overboard). He added that Fargo may have even violated city code by discussing this case with the police department (not to mention her outrageous demand that Sac PD pull public safety resources off our increasingly violent streets to investigate the mothball allegation against Johnson). Also, I can’t help but ask why Fargo would want to drag this young woman into this hissing pit of snakes? Man.
Admittedly I have not spent my life analyzing politicians, but even dumb ol’ Joe knows a genuine leader from an impostor. I think given the events of the last couple days, even marginally reasonable people will agree that the pressure Fargo, Padilla, and Local 447 have heaped on Johnson has produced a diamond of poise, diplomacy, and self-effacing professionalism. Instead of toppling him, the pressure has made him only stronger. Instead of forcing his hand, the pressure has only reinforced his resolve. KJ’s consistent demeanor throughout this savage public lynching, (one which has sought to not just discredit, but to DECIMATE his character), stands in stark contrast to the raging, bitter, sour grapes, win-at-any-cost incumbent “mayor” that is Heather Fargo.
I said it early on and I’ll say it again, this woman is a ruthless politician who hides behind a mask of cordiality and confusing double-speak. have come to believe the reason why our residents (and local newspaper editors) are not completely outraged is because they are so desensitized to mediocrity they can’t even recognize it even when it’s sitting right in front of them speaking doublemint.
Truly I say to you, anyone who could support Heather Fargo after she has devoted 7 years of our tax dollars to initiatives that mostly benefit the folks from her favorite neighborhoods is either one of them, or is clinically insane and should not be allowed to vote.
